This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced General Manager to join and lead our hard-working team.

Established in Hackney in 2010, Violet is both a lively neighbourhood spot and a destination bakery, known for our commitment to seasonal baking with the best ingredients.

General Manager is key senior role managing day to day operations across Violet to ensure Kitchen, Front of House and Office teams deliver excellence daily. You’ll also be working across projects and events with the Business Owner, Head Chef and Head of Operations.

About you:

You will be an experienced leader, able to manage and motivate employees across teams whilst offering comprehensive and organised support to other Senior Management. This role requires strong communication skills and a can-do mindset with a flexible and creative approach to challenges.

An eye for detail is crucial, as well as the curiosity and ability to understand the bigger picture. You will be confident in short and long-term planning, ideally with experience in (or skills transferrable to) project management and events.

You will have a good understanding of the financial infrastructure of a café / bakery including costings, budgeting, invoicing processes and supplier relationships, and work alongside our accountants to constantly refine these.

We’re looking for a minimum of 2 years provable experience in a similar Senior / leadership role. A robust understanding of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) is essential, as well as experience using Deputy software (or similar) for rota and payroll management, and Square / XERO software (or similar) for orders, e-commerce and finance management. A love of food and the Hospitality industry is a must.

Key areas of responsibility:

• Operational excellence: ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across the café from opening to closing, maintaining impeccable standards of cleanliness, customer service and competence. Managing our Annual Planner (holidays, seasons, events).

• Financial management: producing & updating costings, reports and budgets and monitoring expenditure with insight & accuracy. Working closely with our external accountants to ensure financial processes are water tight.

• Building management: handling all aspects of health & safety, fire safety and licensing (Hackney Council) as well as equipment and maintenance issues.

• HR: developing and updating HR policies and documents and supporting all staff with issues and queries arising. Recruiting for roles across FOH, BOH and Office and managing onboarding, training and performance reviews.
